About Wolf River Art League
Formed in 1970, the wolf River Art League is based in new London, WI, with the purpose to create interest in and appreciation for the arts; encouraging and organizing local artists through shows, artist demonstrations, group art projects and student art scholarships.
Each year the league provides a free art show for the public. Professional, non-professional and student artists enter works of art in media such as oil, acrylic, pastel, photography, fiber, ceramics, metal and wood. A Saturday morning judges critique kicks off the two day event. Twenty four prize ribbons and cash awards are given to artists, and a “People’s Choice Award” is given at the end of the show.
In addition to the judged art, local artisans demonstrate skills that include glass fusing, blowing, and beeding; wool spinning and fiber art techniques; wood caricature and cottonwood bark carving, ceramics, fraktur, tatting and many other “Lost Arts”.
Besides putting on an arts show, the league gets together for a few paint-outs throughout the year., Holds monthly meetings, and generally support each other’s endeavors. We also mentor and encourage young artists by offering camp scholarships to Green Bays UW Art Camp.
